About Us

AITGL – Italian Association of Gay & Lesbian Tourism is a non-profit association founded in 2009 in Rimini to give a voice, in front of the media and institutions, to a rapidly growing sector. It represents the entire tourism industry, from travel agencies to tourism boards that promote economic sustainability and openly cater to LGBTQ+ travelers.

Affiliated with IGLTA (International Gay & Lesbian Travel Association), the Association’s primary objectives are to promote LGBTQ+ tourism in Italy and sponsor training projects for industry operators and institutions. The goal is to make Italy an increasingly welcoming tourist destination, capable of being defined as “gay-friendly” like the main European and global capitals.

For tourism companies, joining AITGL is an opportunity to connect with other business entities to exchange ideas, projects, and potentially establish synergies and collaborations.

The Association, with the support of its members and partners, has established an observatory for statistical data on LGBTQ+ tourism to assist companies operating in this sector by better understanding the habits and needs of LGBTQ+ travelers.

Finally, the Association has established a legal assistance service dedicated to LGBTQ+ travelers, where they can receive information and support on key gay-friendly destinations or report any discrimination experienced while using a tourist service.
